Sheriff investigating Newalla stabbing

NORMAN — Cleveland County sheriff’s detectives are investing a stabbing Sunday night in Newalla.

CCSO dispatchers received a call about the incident at 11:02 p.m. Sunday.

When deputies arrived on the scene in the 500 block of Clear Creek Drive, they found Joshua Fuqua, 23, stabbed in the abdomen. Fuqua also injured his knee as he fell.

Fuqua was transported by ambulance to Norman Regional Hospital. He underwent surgery for the stab wound. He is listed in stable condition.

During their investigation, detectives learned that James Leland Davis Rea, 37, and Ginger Johnson, 33, visited the residence prior to the stabbing. Fuqua and Rea stepped outside the home and were involved in an altercation.

Rea allegedly stabbed Fuqua once in the abdomen with a knife, according to a sheriff’s department press release. Rea and Johnson fled the scene but were arrested a short time later in the Clear Bay area of Lake Thunderbird State Park, authorities said.

Johnson was arrested and booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center on a public intoxication complaint.

She bonded out of jail Monday morning.

Rea was arrested on complaints of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of controlled dangerous substance and public intoxication.

He is being held in the county jail.

Charges against Rea and Johnson have been filed with the Cleveland County District Attorney’s office.
