$20,000 worth of marijuana found

NORMAN — Charges were filed Wednesday against a Norman man after police found about $20,000 worth of marijuana in his apartment, including 16 marijuana plants and items for growing them.

Dustin Ray Morgan, 30, was charged in Cleveland County District Court with cultivation of marijuana and maintaining a place for keeping or selling a controlled substance. The District 21 Street Crime Unit obtained a search warrant and executed it Tuesday at his residence, 127 Crestland Drive.

The drug task force collected 16 marijuana plants, fertilizer chemicals, soil, baggies, digital scales, numerous bags containing marijuana that was vacuum sealed, several ledgers containing persons’ names, amount of marijuana sold and the price, grow lights, various hoses and ventilation systems, fans and two barrels of water that were hooked up to an automatic watering system for the plants.

Morgan said he understood his rights and agreed to speak with the arresting officer, according to the affidavit filed with the charges.

Morgan told the officer he maintained the operation while a friend came by from time to time to keep everything in working order. He said his friend also would set him up with multiple pounds of vacuum-sealed marijuana to sell.

The affidavit stated Morgan did it to “make a little cash.”

The total street value of all marijuana found at the residence was valued at about $20,000.

According to an enhancement page filed with the charges and affidavit Wednesday, Morgan had previously been convicted of a felony charge in Oklahoma County.

He pleaded guilty to domestic assault and battery by strangulation in April 2009 and was sentenced to three years to serve concurrently with acceleration for a charge in 2008, according to Oklahoma County District Court records.
