Man charged with first-degree rape

NORMAN — A man was charged with two counts of first-degree rape to a victim under age 14 Wednesday in Cleveland County District Court.

Eric Zeigler, 31, allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl twice on or between February 2008 and February 2010 at a Norman home.

During a forensic interview Feb. 22, the 12-year-old told a Norman police detective about the incidents, which occurred on at least two occasions, according to the affidavit filed with charges.

In a later interview with Zeigler about the inappropriate contact with the child, Zeigler admitted to the incidents.

“Yes, I did. I couldn’t tell you step by step or anything like that. It may have been when I was high or something like that, but I made a mistake,” Zeigler said during the interview, according to the affidavit.

He further stated he could not remember any specific instance, but he knew that he “had been inappropriate” and when asked if he only touched the girl, he replied “mostly,” the affidavit stated.

Zeigler had been booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center on Feb. 15 on a fugitive of justice charge and was transferred on Feb. 28. Cleveland County Sheriff spokeswoman Meghan McCormick said she was unaware as to where he was transferred and that there was a hold placed on him.

Missouri court records show that Zeigler, of Rockaway Beach, Mo., was arrested in Oklahoma on Feb. 15 and transported to Stone County, Mo., on March 1. Zeigler was booked into Stone County jail on charges of receiving stolen property of $500 or more. His bond is set at $4,900.

In 2007, Zeigler pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property in Stone County. He was sentenced to three years of supervised probations with special conditions, including restitution of $350. Several probation violations were filed against Zeigler in Stone County from 2007 to 2011.
