Burglars target automobiles

NORMAN — Norman Police records show there were 10 auto burglaries that occurred in Norman on Wednesday since midnight. Several of those auto burglaries occurred in west and northwest parts of the city.

Norman Police Capt. Tom Easley said there were a couple vehicle break-ins in the area of Golden Oaks and a couple out on the mile of cars in Norman.

Records show there were five auto burglaries in the vicinity of 48th St. and Robinson St., three near 36th St. and Rock Creek Road, and one on the east side of I-35 off of Robinson St. There was also an auto burglary reported in southeast Norman.

“It’s without a doubt that the number one crime in this town is auto burglary,” Easley said.

He said Norman hasn’t had any more car break-ins than usual. There have not yet been any reports of arrests for auto burglary.

“An automobile is simply not a secure place to leave valuables, it’s too easy to get into,” Easley said. “If you don’t want it stolen, don’t leave it in your car. Remove your valuables if you’re going to park your car in the street or driveway.”

Also, park your car in your garage if you have one, and even then remove any valuables from the car he said.
