NORMAN — Former OU student arrested for planning an act of violence

Former University of Oklahoma student Naasik Ferdous was arrested by OU Police last week with a bond set at $2 million.
Ferdous, 21, was charged Thursday with planning or conspiring to perform an act of violence and stalking.
According to court documents, he was expelled from OU because of his stalking-type behavior toward female students.
According to an affidavit, Ferdous talked about physically assaulting team members of an OU women’s athletic team and their families.
On Oct. 16, Ferdous drove 600 miles from Ohio, where he was living after being expelled from OU, to Kansas, where he placed a hand-written letter at a former OU student’s family residence.
“In the letter, Ferdous expressed his love for a former OU student and his desire to kill a current OU student,” the affidavit stated. “In the letter, Ferdous stated he would ‘murder’ the current OU student.”
Also on Oct. 16, he contacted and spoke on the phone with an OU police officer. During the recorded conversation, Ferdous said he was the person who wrote and placed the letter threatening the life of the current OU female athlete. He blamed his expulsion on the student because she reported his stalking behavior in January 2011.
Also during the recorded conversation, Ferdous said, the previous week, he verbally told several people at Cincinnati University that he had purchased a knife from a local store and was going to go after the current female OU student with it.
“Ferdous described his current state of confusion and the specific techniques he used to locate the former OU student’s family residence,” the affidavit stated.
He had used a family member’s credit cards and vehicle to move across the state lines, court documents stated. He also sold his college textbooks for cash.
After reading the letter on Oct. 16, the current OU student obtained an Emergency Protective Order in the District Court of Cleveland County.
On Oct. 17, Ferdous drove about 300 miles from Kansas to the OU campus in Norman with “the expressed intent of locating the current OU student and physically assaulting her,” the affidavit states.
The OU Police Department then made contact with him and arrested him.
“Ferdous stated that he was going to stay in Norman, Okla., until he located the current OU student and physically assaulted her,” court documents stated.
