Norman Police investigate shooting

Female victim has a criminal background

NORMAN — The Norman woman shot Tuesday night was treated and released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon.

Lisa Nicole Nardine, 40, was taken to Norman Regional Hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound to the neck. Nardine was found by police in the driver’s seat of a pickup in the middle of the intersection at Peters Avenue and Johnson Street after responding to an assault call in the area.

Nardine has had several encounters with the law before and is currently facing charges for possession of controlled dangerous substance and knowingly concealing stolen property. In 2010, she pled guilty to charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and obstructing an officer.

Court documents state she would be on probation until May 2015 for charges she pled guilty to in 2010.

This is the second shooting that has occurred in that area in the past month. On Sept. 13, Mary Ellen Benavidez, 57, was shot in her home at 1210 Stubbeman Ave. Neighbors said the house was a “high traffic” area and suspected drug activity.

Detectives were in the process of search warrants Wednesday for a home on Johnson Street. Neighbors in the area said the home that detectives were searching was “high traffic” as well.

One neighbor said she thought the incident was drug-related at first, but then heard the woman who was living at the residence shot the woman in the truck.

“I thought the guy was messing around on her, she went crazy and shot the lady,” the neighbor said.

The neighbor also said there are usually two vehicles at the residence, one that’s been gone since the incident occurred. The woman who lived at the residence has not been “anywhere to be found since it (the shooting) happened,” she said.

The investigation is continuing and no arrests have been made.
