Football
• Clash guidlines
The 12th Annual Norman Clash between the Norman North and Norman High football teams is set for Thursday at Memorial Stadium on the University of Oklahoma campus. Gates open at 6 p.m. with kick-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
North fans will enter the stadium through gate 5, which is on the west side of the stadium. NHS fans will enter through gate 7, which is on the east side. Parking is on a first come first serve basis. The duck pond lot (North of new track stadium) will be open, as well as levels 3-6 in the parking garage.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for high school and college students. Tickets can be purchased at either high school, or the district athletic office on Flood, through Thursday, which the district is encouraging fans to do to help avoid long lines at the gates.
According to the Norman School district, no hard objects or back packs will be allowed into the stadium. Seats or cushions are allowed.
Other game rules:
A. Nothing to be allowed into the game that OU does not allow to be brought in.
B. No paint of any kind allowed. No body paint allowed. This also includes stickers, face paint, black, or any color, strips under eyes, or stick-on tattoos. (Hair paint allowed if done before coming to the game and not at the stadium)
C. No air horns allowed. No noise makers allowed.
D. Umbrellas are not allowed in the stadium.
E. No outside drinks or food allowed. (May bring in an empty clear plastic bottle for water inside the stadium.
Basketball
• Jr. Jammer league set
The Norman Parks and Recreation Department is holding the 2009 Fall Junior Jammer Basketball League. This official Jr NBA/Jr WNBA League is for children ages 5-12 years old.
League play is set to begin Oct. 19 and games will be played at both Whittier and Irving Recreation Centers. The league is divided into seven divisions from ages 5 to 12. Registration deadline for teams or individuals is Sept. 18 and forms may be turned in at the City of Norman Recreation Center or the Parks and Recreation main office at City Hall.
League cost is $55 per player and every child must wear an official Junior Jammer Jersey. For those who do not already have a jersey the cost will be an additional $15. more information on Junior Jammer Basketball, call 292-9703 or go to www.juniorjammer.com.
• MACU holds tryouts
The Mid-America Christian University women’s basketball team will hold a try-out every Friday at 5 p.m. It’s open to players interested in suiting up for the Lady Evangels. Cycling
• Weekly rides set
The Bicycle League of Norman’s weekly rides have started back up. The Tuesday night rides begin at 6:30 p.m. at Brookhaven Village. Thursday night rides begin at 6:30 p.m. at Reaves Park.
Volleyball
• New league on tap
Junior Spikers, a new youth volleyball league offered by the City of Norman Parks and Recreation Department, is now accepting registrations for fall.
The instructional league for children in the third through sixth grades is aimed at not only teaching participants the proper way to play the sport of volleyball, but good sportsmanship and the fundamentals of working as a member of a team.
Registration forms may also be downloaded at www.normanfun.com. The cost is $50 per person, and includes a team shirt. Teams are guaranteed six matches. League play will begin Sept. 14.
