NORMAN — Pantry schedulesits open house

The International Pantry, 1618 W. Lindsey St., plans its holiday open house from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 29.

Owner Jocelyn Wall said the store will offer knife sharpening sponsored by Wusthof.  Guests can bring up to three straight-edged kitchen knives per person with a $1 donation or one non-expired canned good per knife to benefit Food & Shelter for Friends.

Visitors also can watch a cooking demonstration by Le Creuset, sample foods from Stonewall Kitchen & Robert Rothschild, watch a demonstration by Breville electrics representatives and get and cutlery tips from Wusthof.

Feed The Children makes Forbes list

Oklahoma City based nonprofit, Feed The Children, has been ranked number 20 on the Forbes 100 Largest U.S. Charities list. 

Feed The Children is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing food and essentials to children and families in need around the world.

Feed The Children has consistently been ranked as one of the largest international charities based in the United States, and is the only Oklahoma based non-profit to be included on the list this year.

Under new leadership, Feed The Children is committed to expanding and improving their services to better serve those without life’s essentials, both domestically and internationally.

OG&E crews back from East Coast

Oklahoma Gas and Electric recently announced that 60 employees are returning home after spending more than two weeks assisting with power restoration in the Northeast following Hurricane Sandy.

OG&E crews headed to Maryland to first assist Baltimore Gas and Electric near Baltimore.

After several days of restoration work there, they were released to assist harder-hit Public Service Electric and Gas in the Paramus, N.J., area.

While in New Jersey, OG&E crews spent six days restoring electricity to customers who had been without power for a week or more.

In Glen Rock, N.J., a borough of about 12,000 residents, Mayor John van Keuren wondered why he wasn’t seeing any utility trucks after the storm. When they did show up, he said, they were the trademark orange OG&E trucks.
