NORMAN — Mitchell’s Jewelry will close its downtown location at 218 East Main Street and re-open in a larger location on West Main Street in February. In the meantime, the complete inventory is on sale.
“We will be doing the sale up until Jan. 20 when we shut down to move,” said co-owner Gina Mitchell. “We’re going to clearance everything out. It’s not like it’s not fabulous merchandise, but two of the largest jewelry shows are in January and February, so our vendors are releasing new items to us for the new location. We want to start with all new inventory.”
Mitchell’s Jewelry, established in 1981, is a family-owned and operated independent jeweler.
“We’re moving only because this gives us over 20 of our very own parking spots and it doubles our showroom space,” Mitchell said. “It’s been so exciting for me because we have people stopping by to see what’s happening. It’s a landmark building in Norman, and we’ve been interested in that spot for a long, long time. We were ready to expand”
The new location is the former site of Hob Nob Rob’s located on the north side of Main Street just east of 24th Avenue Northwest.
“It opened as a savings and loan in 1969 or 1970,” Mitchell said.
The same group of Norman contractors who helped Mitchell’s with the remodel of their downtown location four years ago will assist in this transformation.
“What we’ve tried to do is keep the historical look and feel of the building, but we’ve got the high efficiency lighting and heating,” she said.
Like the former savings and loan building, the Mitchells have a long history in Norman.
“I went to work with Newt when we got married in 1998,” she said. “He knew so much and had been there forever. He had a great customer base. Who doesn’t love going to work in that environment every day?”
The Mitchells took the move as an opportunity to give customers a chance to select from millions of dollars of fine diamond jewelry, precious and semi-precious gemstone jewelry, sterling silver, 18-karat gold and platinum designer pieces during the moving sale.
The entire multi-million dollar collection will be available for immediate sale during the store closing event.
“We planned the sale at the most advantageous time for our customers,” Mitchell said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for our clients to select exceptional gifts at extraordinary discounts that would otherwise never be possible.”
Mitchell’s represents numerous couture jewelry brands including Edward Mirell, Kirk Kara, Michele Watch, Ritani, Verragio, Benchmark, Cheri Dori, Scott Kay, Vahan, Allison Kaufman, Elma-Gil, Imperial Pearl, Sara Blaine and TW Steel, according to a press release announcing the event.
Mitchell’s is affiliated with the Independent Jewelers Organization, Jewelers of America and the Oklahoma Jewelers Association, and has been chosen as the Reader’s Choice selection for Norman’s Best Jewelry Store multiple years.
