Freddy’s custard cone heralds new store

NORMAN — One of America’s fastest growing “better-burger” restaurants, Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers will open in Norman soon. The well-known custard cone sign went up last week at the corner of 24th Avenue Northwest and Main Street.

The restaurant will employ 60 people. The menu features a variety of cooked-to-order items, including specialty all-beef Vienna hot dogs, chili, piping hot shoestring fries, and the namesake frozen custard and steakburgers. The Norman restaurant will be the 12th location for franchisee Bob Rasberry of RKS Ventures, Inc., currently operating throughout Oklahoma and in Dallas.

Co-founded by Scott Redler and Bill, Randy and Freddy Simon, Freddy’s opened its first location on west 21st Street in Wichita during 2002, offering a unique combination of cooked-to-order steakburgers, Chicago dogs, and other savory items along with its signature desserts prepared with premium frozen custard made fresh throughout the day.

Freddy’s founders operate six locations in the Wichita Metro area and two in the Kansas City market. Sixty-six franchise units serve other areas of Kansas and Missouri as well as Arizona, California, Colorado, Iowa, Nebraska, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas.

In 2012, Freddy’s was included among Inc.’s 500/5000 list of Fastest Growing Private Companies,” Entrepreneur Magazine’s Franchise 500, Business Insider’s “8 Better Burger Chains Poised to Conquer America,” and QSR Magazine’s “10 Best Franchise Deals.”
