Dick’s Sporting Goods opens location in Moore

NORMAN — Special appearances included in weekend store celebrations

Dick’s Sporting Goods opened multiple locations simultaneously in Moore, Midwest City and Oklahoma City this week and will celebrate with a weekend of grand opening festivities, starting with a ribbon cutting today.

“It’s an incredible store,” Moore City Manager Steve Eddy said. “They had a soft opening Tuesday evening. We went out and toured the store.

“We are very happy to have a store of this caliber and quality in our community and to provide a sporting goods store,” he said. “We haven’t had that kind of store here before.”

On Sunday, former Detroit Lions running back and Oklahoma State University alum Barry Sanders will meet and greet customers from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Dick’s in Moore, 760 SW 19th St.

Eddy said Moore is ready for the crowd.

“We’re very much convinced it will be very successful,” Eddy said. “Dick’s is a big deal, and it will be a regional draw from all over the south Oklahoma City metro.”

Dick’s is the largest U.S. based full-line sporting goods retailer, according to a press release issued this week to announce the opening of stores in Moore’s Fritts Farm, Town Center Plaza in Midwest City and Quail Springs and Westgate Marketplace in Oklahoma City.

Special store hours will be in effect through the weekend for all locations from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and Saturday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

“We’re pleased to be opening four new Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Oklahoma City, which will enable us to better serve the needs of athletes in the community,” said Lauren Hobart, Dick’s Sporting Goods chief marketing officer. “With our unsurpassed customer service and the best equipment in the industry, we look forward to a strong presence in Oklahoma City.”

Throughout the weekend, Dick’s Sporting Goods will host a variety of activities, including appearances by the DICK’S 4,000 gallon bass tank along with bass fishing professionals and the Ultimate Shootout archery trailer. Numerous giveaways and promotions will highlight celebrations at all four stores.

On Saturday, Dick’s invites fans to each location to watch the Oklahoma Sooners battle the Iowa State Cyclones on a Jumbotron television as part of Saturday tailgate events.

In addition to Sanders’ appearance in Moore, Oklahoma running back Billy Sims will be at Quail Springs, 4200 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma City Thunder basketball player Serge Ibaka will make an in-store appearance from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Town Center Plaza, 7095 SE 29th St. in Midwest City. On Sunday, former Buffalo Bills running back and Oklahoma State University alum Thurman Thomas will be at the Westgate Marketplace, 6601 SW 3rd St. in Oklahoma City, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Autographs will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis at the store on the day of the event. Times and appearances are subject to change without notice, according to the company press release.
