Norman NEXT plans kickball tournament

NORMAN — Norman NEXT has scheduled its fall kickball tournament for 1-5 p.m. on Oct. 28 at Griffin Park. As in the past, the proceeds from the tournament will benefit a local charity. This year’s fall tournament will benefit Bridges, Among Friends and the Community After School Program.

Team sponsor dollars raised will benefit Bridges and Among Friends and item donations will directly benefit CASP. Donations being sought this year include dolls, action figures and board games.

Teams are encouraged to dress up since the event is just days before Halloween. Trophies will be awarded to the Championship team as well as the best costumed team.

Once again local celebrity umpires will add to the event’s fun spirit. So far Mark and Debra Krittenbrink, Jimmy Irwin, Robert and Robyn Castleberry, Jason Dixon, John Woods and Scott Martin have agreed to serve as celebrity umpires.

New this year is the fun group, competitive group and the kids’ option. The fun group is for players who enjoy the game, but aren’t as crazy about the competition itself. The competitive group will be teams entered into the full tournament vying for the coveted championship trophies and tshirts.

The fun group winning team will be allowed to take on the competitive group if they decide they’re ready to step up. Kids have always accompanied their parents, this year we want them to play along. Beginning around 3:30 the kids in attendance will be put into teams to enjoy their own kickball experience.

This event is sponsored by First American Bank, McMahon Marketing and Oklahoma Electric Cooperative. Team Sponsorships are also available. Team Sponsors will receive full team participation (11-15 members), company logo on all marketing materials and company logo on championship T-shirts for just $150.Individual players can join a team for $10 or put a full team together. Eleven players are allowed on the field at one time, with a minimum of eight. Only 12 teams will be allowed to register so hurry up and get your team in the mix.

To sign up a team or become a sponsor, contact Kyla McMoran at 321-7260 or via email, kyla@normanchamber.com.

Deadline to sponsor the event is Oc. 19. The deadline to sign up a team is Oct. 24.
