Norman High School
Open House for Norman High School will be 6:30 p.m.- 8 p.m. Aug. 26. Parents are encouraged to follow their student's class schedule and meet their teachers. There will be a freshman orientation meeting for parents in the library 8-9 p.m. There will also be a PTA meeting 6:15 p.m. in the Commons.
Norman North High School
Open house for Norman North High School will be 7-9 p.m. Aug. 26. There will be a PTA meeting at 6:30 p.m.
Middle schools
Open house for all four Norman middle schools will be Sept. 2. Alcott and Longfellow Middle Schools open house will be 6:30-8 p.m. Irving Middle School open house will be 5-7 p.m. Whittier Middle School open house will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This will be an informal time for parents to visit their student's classes, meet their teachers and become familiar with the school.

Several new administrators named to NPS
Administrators who are new to the district or who are in new positions for the 2008-2009 school year include:
Dr. Bob Neel, director of transportation, is coming to Norman from Elizabeth, Colo., where he served as superintendent of Elizabeth C-1 School District since August 2006. - Norman Public Schools graduation requirements explained The State of Oklahoma requires all students to complete a required course of study equal to 23 credits before graduating from high school. Fifteen of the credits must be attained in science, math, language arts, social studies and the arts.
- Elementary back-to-school night Back-to-school night is an annual event in Norman and will be held at all elementary schools 5:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 18. This event gives students and their parents the opportunity to visit their classroom, meet the teacher and get acquainted with other students who will be in their class for this school year.

Schools, Sodexo plan to promote healthy eating, exercise to students
Norman Public Schools and Sodexo School Services have another year of events for the upcoming school year.
Meal service begins Aug. 20 in all schools. Breakfast and lunch will be served at Adams, Cleveland, Eisenhower, Jackson, Jefferson, Kennedy, Lakeview, Lincoln, Madison, Monroe, Truman, Washington, Wilson, Alcott, Irving, Longfellow, Whittier, Dimensions Academy, Norman High School and Norman North High School. - Dimensions Academy enrollment available Dimensions Academy assists students in becoming positive, contributing members of their families, schools and communities by maintaining high academic standards, teaching basic life skills, nurturing individual talents, developing strong student-teacher relationships and building dynamic community partnerships.
