Winter storm makes its way through Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Highway crews are plowing roadways and applying salt and sand as a winter storm makes its way across Oklahoma.

The National Weather Service says areas in western Oklahoma — including Roger Mills and Washita counties — saw 4 inches of snow, while other areas received a dusting. Forecasters in Norman say most roads are slick with 1 to 2 inches of snow.

The snow is expected to transition to a sleet-freezing rain mix before turning to all rain later Monday.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation urges drivers to be careful and plan for extra time on their morning commute. A portion of I-40 was closed near El Reno this morning due to a jack-knifed truck.

Pete Snyder, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Tulsa, says the precipitation should melt quickly as temperatures are predicted near 50 on Tuesday.
