NORMAN — Transcript Staff
Norman residents interested in helping the Oklahoma Blood Institute off-set their holiday shortage are urged to participate in a blood drive going on at Norman Regional Hospital.
The drive is going on today from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Education Center, 901 N. Porter.
Donor age and weight criteria are as follows:
* 16 year olds must weigh more than 125 lbs with signed parental permission.
* 17 year olds must weigh more than 125 lbs
* 18 year olds and older must weigh more than 110 lbs.
Although all blood types are needed, people with O-negative type blood are especially encouraged to donate. Only nine percent of the national population has O-negative blood; however, O-negative blood can be used in an emergency need when a patient’s blood type has not yet been identified.
