OU shuts down New Mexico State

NORMAN — Oklahoma got back on the winning track Tuesday night, opening a 10-game homestand with an 8-0 victory over New Mexico State at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

OU’s Garrett Carey went 2 for 5 with three RBIs and Matt Oberste extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a 3-for-3 effort.

The victory lifted the Sooners to 13-4 on the season. The Aggies dipped to 8-9.

Ralph Garza Jr., (2-0) secured the victory. The left-hander entered in the third inning and threw 4 1/3 shutout innings. He struck out five and limited New Mexico State to five hits.

Casey Collins (1-2) took the loss. He allowed four runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings.

The teams return to L. Dale Mitchell Park at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday for the finale of the two-game series.
