Gray tosses shutout for Sooners

NORMAN — Jonathan Gray’s first appearance as Oklahoma’s Friday night starter was a memorable one. The right-hander threw a complete-game five-hitter in the Sooners’ 1-0 victory at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

The victory lifted OU to 15-4. Northwestern State dropped to 9-11.

Gray (4-1) moved into the starting role after throwing seven scoreless innings against UCLA last Saturday. The 12-strikeout performance Friday night ran his scoreless inning streak to 16 innings and lowered his ERA to 1.51.

The Sooners didn’t give Gray much run support. Matt Oberste ran his hitting streak to 19 games with a solo homer in the fourth inning. The blast gave Oberste a Big 12 Conference-leading six homers on the season.

Robert Baker went the distance for the Demons. He dropped to 2-1 on the season despite limiting the Sooners to one run on six hits and striking out five.
