NORMAN — The NFL released the invite list to the Combine later this month in Indianapolis.
Oklahoma had six players invited to the event:
· safety Tony Jefferson
· offensive lineman Lane Johnson
· quarterback Landry Jones
· defensive tackle Stacy McGee
· wide receiver Kenny Stills
· linebacker Tom Wort
The Sooners led the Big 12 Conference in players invited. Kansas State had five players receive invitations. West Virginia had four. Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas had three. Baylor, Kansas and Iowa State had two. Texas Tech did not have a single player invited.
One glaring number that showed the Big 12’s defensive deficiencies were in the number of defensive linemen NFL teams want to get a closer look at. Only three Big 12 defensive linemen have been invited to Indianapolis. The SEC had 16.
Now, the SEC does have four more teams than the Big 12. Nonetheless, if anyone is wondering why the SEC has won the last seven national championships, talent along the defensive line has been the difference.
