TECUMSEH, Okla. (AP) — Authorities a 44-year-old man was found dead after a fire at his Tecumseh home.
Fire Chief Aaron Williams says Martin J. King was killed in the blaze Monday morning at his home. Williams tells the Shawnee News-Star that firefighters responded within one minute after learning of the blaze, but the home was already fully engulfed in flames.
Williams says a refrigerator was blocking a back door, which delayed firefighters’ entrance into the home.
The chief says King was found dead in the middle of the home. The state medical examiner will determine King’s cause of death, but Williams says it’s likely King died from smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Williams says the single-story home did not have a smoke detector.
