North girls eliminated from state tournament

SKIATOOK — A fine season ended too soon for the Norman North girls Thursday afternoon. The Timberwolves were not themselves the first 27 minutes of the game, leaving a valiant comeback to be simply valiant, yet not victorious.

By a 44-41 count, Union moves on and will continue in the Class 6A girls state tournament Friday morning at Oral Roberts University’s Mabee Center.

Bri Kuestersteffen led North with 14 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter.

North trailed 34-20 before desperation and urgency kicked in with about 5 minutes to play. That urgency sparked a furious fourth-quarter comeback that got the T-Wolves within 42-39 with Paige Canty at the line to shoot a one-an-one with 24 seconds remaining.

That’s where the comeback ended.

The T-Wolves closed the season 19-8.

Union improved to 18-10.
