Norman Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Joe Siano announced today to parents, faculty and students that there would be no need to make up the snow day the district had on February 21, 2013, due to inclement weather.
An email was sent to faculty and school administrators this morning, and parents and students were informed through the district's newsletter today, as well as social media and the district's mobile app.
The Board of Education and district administration extended the school day last school year. Because state law now allows the district to calculate its school year in minutes, rather than days, to be in compliance with state mandates, the district will not have to make up the most recent snow day.
"The Board of Education and district built in additional minutes to the school day with the intent that it could offset minor disruptions to the school calendar as a result of inclement weather," Siano said. "The February 21 snow day is one such instance. So the last day of school is still set for May 24."
