NORMAN — A 61-year-old Norman man remained in critical condition late this afternoon after a two vehicle collision on Highway 9.

Roger Lane Ayers, 61, was westbound on Highway 9 at the time of the collision. Paramedics transported Ayers to OU Medical Center, where he is in critical condition, according to a news release from Norman Police Capt. Tom Easley.

The collision occurred about 8:30 a.m. at Highway 9 and 156th Avenue SE and involved a Ford Escape and Ayers' Honda Shadow motorcycle,  Easley said in the release.

“We shut down Highway 9 both directions for a couple of hours to conduct the investigation,” Easley said.

According to the news release, a 16-year-old Norman girl was driving the Ford Escape north on 156th and attempted to turn west at the stop sign at Highway 9. The Ford Escape collided with Ayers' westbound Honda Shadow.

Easley said both drivers were transported by EMSStat. Though he wore a helmet, Ayers suffered serious injuries, Easley said.

The female driver of the Ford wore a seat belt and did not suffer major injuries.

The police department is continuing to investigate the collision, and the Transcript will continue to monitor the incident.
